If you would like to know more about me beyond physical training, my other important life topics listed on the left, but they are in no way required reading! I have a degree in Personal Training with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and I carry liability insurance with Sports Fitness Insurance Corporation. I started power lifting in 1985 and I have lived a lifestyle of a bodybuilder since 1994. I have been conditioned by some of the top trainers in the state of Alaska and have been the training partner for several competing male and female bodybuilders over the last 14 years. In the bodybuilding community and in sports it is natural for me to train others or to take on the instruction from others in order to broaden my athletic lifestyle. Because people have been approaching me for years for advice and physical training, I have decided to license, insure, and further educate myself in order to provide people with a true tool and an empowerment to change their lifestyles. I am here to help you and be a part of your support team. The following is some insight on my lifetime of physical fitness.
My experience in personal physical training could probably be charted back to when my parents had me swimming in saltwater at age 1 in Florida where I was born. As an adolescent I was always involved in sports or physical activities (Track and Field, Volleyball, Baseball, Cross-Country Skiing, Soccer, Gymnastics and so on).
As a freshman in high school I took right to powerlifting and held most of the womens records through my 4 years. As a junior my weight was 170 lbs at 5’4" and measurements of 40-27-36. I was not lean just muscle mass.
Many things happened into my early 20s and I ended up looking in the mirror and realizing I had let my life issues take me away from my inner power and health. I was now wearing a size 14-16 and was very unhappy with myself. My weight, my smoking, and my lifestyle was just not acceptable to me anymore.
At the age of 24 I decided there were no more excuses. I quit smoking (a habit I started in 3rd grade and had been religious to for 14 years). At the same time I went back to martial arts and boxing and got back in the gym, but this time I took on a couple of personal trainers and learned how to change my lifestyle. It took my dedicated effort of about a year to get back down to a size 3 jr. and I have kept this lifestyle ever since, fluctuating back and forth to a 5jr. (I do not make a habit of weighing myself, 138 to 145 pounds at 5'4" is my average.)
In 2002 I elected to have breast augmentation, which was one of the worst choices of my life. I did not do enough research and made the wrong choice for a cosmetic surgeon. This doctor with 11 years of cosmetic history had not truly worked on someone of my level of muscularity and I did not see the warning signs. She insisted on placing the implants under my pectoral muscle and when she was faced with this task in surgery she had to call another surgeon in to help force the foreign object under the muscle. My pectoral muscle was too thick and by forcing this procedure my doctor created detachments of both of my pectoral majors at the sternum and within 6 months my pectoral fans had almost completely torn off and had retracted to my armpits. I have had 4 reconstructive surgeries as a result of the first and the muscle tissue had to be sown into the sternum and rib cage. From one pain to another, after my first reconstructive surgery I felt like each one of my ribs were broken for about 3 months. I had 3 years of severe pain, I still deal with pain daily, and I am now permanently handicapped. I could bench 250 pounds before my augmentation and today I am at a 60 pounds bench max and unfortunately my lack of patience has caused some recurring injury. I do thank God for giving me back what I have today. Today I am 36 years old and for 12 years now I have been living the lifestyle of a bodybuilder. It is a more restrictive lifestyle then most people are interested in living, but it works for me by providing me with the energy and enthusiasm that makes me feel good about myself.
I think feeling good about yourself is what's important! I do not expect you to be me to be happy.
